Our Story
Handcrafted tradition for 42 years
Hollingworth Candies specializes in handcrafting toffees and chocolate candies. Our mission is to provide high quality candies and excellent customer service. Our story begins at home. Hollingworth Candies was founded by Margaret Carlson in 1982. She started making English toffee one pound at a time in her home kitchen, along with her neighbor, and selling candy at small craft shows. Inspired by her success, Margaret continued selling her irresistible toffees around the region. Margaret's husband, Chester, after retiring, joined her in cooking the toffees and brittles.
Since opening, Margaret’s commitment to pure, natural ingredients and handmade toffees remains unchanged. The business remains in the family—daughter Wendy Carver was welcomed into the business and they opened the Lockport storefront in 1993. Their product offerings expanded to include sea salt caramels, the ever-popular Chesters, caramel apples and other molded chocolates. In 2017 Margaret and Wendy welcomed Sarah Carver, granddaughter/daughter respectively, to join them in continuing the Hollingworth Candies tradition it is today, now in its storefront, warehouse and online shop. Fellow sisters, Laura Carver and Aubrey Carver have since joined as well, with their father/Wendy’s husband, Dale Carver, joining as the cook.
Our toffees are still made by hand using the highest quality creamery butter, pure chocolate and fresh nuts.
